Regal Busways of Chelmsford was - and is - mainly a single decker operator,
with a network of services spreading across Essex from Waltham Cross to Walton-on-the-Naze.
As such it is mostly outwith the old London Transport Country Area, but impinges on it - and the Central Area -
at places such as Loughton and Brentwood.
It has acquired a handful of secondhand Leyland Olympians for its double-deck needs,
starting with 1203, an ECW-bodied Olympian built for Crosville in 1985,
acquired by Regal in January 2004, and still active.
Others have come from Go-Ahead NorthEast (1217), Arriva Northumbria (1264) and London Transport
(L64) , the last via a number of other operators, and rather taller than the other three.
2011 saw a shake-up, with some of the older Olympians sold off, and others acquired.
In January an Alexander-bodied bus arrived from Stagecoach United Counties,
and a Leyland bodied bus arrived from Preston.
