I received my usual welcome aboard RT604, and settle in for the short journey. This time I did get to visit Leatherhead Town Centre, before we dipped down Bridge Street to cross the River Mole. Beyond, we reached the railway bridge just before the site of the old Leatherhead Bus Garage. RF429 came bustling under the bridge on another 462 from Cobham.
Past the bridge and garage site we met RT3228, drifting in with a short 408 working from Effingham.
We headed west, quickly into contryside dotted with pockets of outer suburbia as we skirted Fetcham and Great Bookham. We reached the fringes of Effingham and pulled in to what is now a layby off the main road, at Woodlands Road.
We had a few minutes at Woodlands Road to take pictures, while the blinds were rewound for Leatherhead.
Soon we turned back onto the main road and headed back into Leatherhead. As we skirted Fetcham I was surprised to see Dart 3979 coming towards us, heading for Dorking. Apparently it comes out here, then doubles back to meet the Leatherhead by-pass.
Back at Leatherhead the buses were thinning out, as people headed home. MB90 was loading up, presumably for its homeward trip, and Rt3871 was almost ready to go too.
SNB340 loaded up for its trip to Tadworth, then on to Reigate and East Grinstead, and I waited for the 470 home.
